Actually, I've been pretty good about getting something up well before midnight, if only because I'm worse than useless after 9 p.m. most days. Also, I'm in mini-panic mode about missing a day, all day, until I can get something started, at the very least.

But so far, this whole exercise in self-discipline has been really, really good for me. I'm not saying that I'm producing anything amazing, but just the act of writing a little bit each day has left me feeling much saner as of late. It's good therapy.

Thanks, Marrow. ^_^

Umm yes and no. I can't speak for anyone else, but I can say that my problems are manifold. Yesterday, I essentially spent the whole day just writing one draft of the story. It was too much of an undertaking for a single day. Previous days, I would bash my brains about for a plot and nothing would come. Or I would get one, but part of the research I needed to do in order to write it involved downloading something that took days. As well, I think best after 11pm, lasting until about 3:30 - 4 am. So right when I need to have something finished is when I tend to get my brain spurts. At any rate, as I decided at the beginning, excuses don't matter. But those are the reasons for my posting habits.

Well, I'm only on day three, but here's my trend. I've been thinking of ideas through the day, and then aim to write for a period of time right before I go to bed. Today I wrote day two's story during work, because yesterday evening was busy. Tonight I'm back to normal, although posting here rather than writing.

Off I go to rectify that.

I have decided something.

I really, really, really don't like livejournal.

So I'm continuing the effort here. All the posts from the LJ have already been transferred to that one.

Sorry for the hassle with the links and all.

Why's that? Not that I'm a big proponent of livejournal (clearly - I'm using blogspot, after all), but I'm curious what your beef with it is.

I would like to interject - I hate you all for totally trashing up my RSS feeds.

Seriously. I have too many items in my "30 day challenge" folder.

I usually get up at 0600. Then I'm usually at work at 0800 four days of the week, for 10 hours. At 1900 I eat, then spend two hours sorting, tossing and cleaning stuff at my former house. I think I'm about 2/3rds of the way through, and hope with a great, weary hope that I will be done by Saturday. Because next week I work one day of 4 and 5 days of eight. If I'm not done, I feel like abandoning the rest; like gnawing off a leg to get out of a trap. So by 2230, I'm clean, in pajamas, and forum surfing. My mind finally settles about 2330, and I have to finish writing before I fall asleep and off my yoga ball.

I just need to make it through one. more. week. Then I can have one (1) day off to crawl under the coffee table and cry before I start my next project.

Come to think of it, I probably won't cry then either. Maybe I'll just stay in my pajamas and watch gothic movies all day... ;/

Phalmy, do you have a free blog on BlogSpot? Because I noticed yours doesn't have any of those annoying ads like my LJ page has. LJ used to have an account that was free and had no advertising, but that option appears to be gone now.

I really hate those ads, even if it is just for 30 days. :woeisme:

There's a number of inflexibilities with Livejournal. A lot of stuff you just can't do, or maybe you can, and I just haven't found where, which amounts to the same thing imo.

Observe, as a counterexample, blogspot.

Blogspot allows you to operate many blogs under one account.
Livejournal doesn't.

In Blogspot, you have a concise range of standard layouts to choose from. There aren't really that many, but you can tweak your layout as you go later. You can change, for example, your serif font to a sans font, which is easier to read on a computer screen.
In Livejournal, you have a plethora of layouts, but once you choose one, you're stuck with it. Or if you're not, I honest-to-god have no clue where to change it.

Blogspot has (imo) clearer menus.
The navibar in LJ changes in content depending on what page you're viewing. (wat)

Blogspot has post preview. (big one)

Blogspot works with google. (re: nerve-stapled slave of the Google Corporation. Drool, drool.)

I'm actually not quite sure if LJ works as a feed, but because Google Reader didn't digest Archi's blog, I'm guessing no or it's turned off by default.

And then there's the ads. (apparently, I escaped that) My blogspot account is free, or at least if someone's paying for it it's not me. Afaik paying is not even an option on blogspot.

That's why I defected.

I actually have blogs on both sites, although I started on Blogger and moved to LJ. They both have their good and bad points.

Phalmy - to change your layout go to Journal>Customise Journal, if you're still interested.

As far as ads go, Firefox+AdBlock Plus means none for me. Probably bad in terms of the content provider, but to be honest I'd never clicked an ad in my life before getting ABP, so it's not really a loss.

Yup. Join the club! ^_^

I've got both, but I prefer Blogger/Blogspot. About the only feature of LiveJournal that I miss is the ability to all your tags/labels at once; as far as I can tell Blogger only allows you to edit them one post at a time.

Lol. Yes. Do you remember Diaryland? I remember back in grade 7, it seemed like everyone had a Diaryland account. I tried to find some of them the other day, but it looks like they all disappeared.

Also, what are these RSS feeds of which you speak? I'm sure I should know but... well, I don't. :(

Programs like Google Reader or RSSOwl and whatnot.

Basically, it tracks whenever a website updates, so I just check Google Reader and go "ohey- Marrow updated! Barely on time...again..."

(Kidding, Marrow. You know I love you.)

I am procrastinating. Soon I must go to bed (mum is nagging) and I have written a grand total of 25 words today, 20 of which I think warrant a tap on the backspace. *sigh*

[/whinging] ^_^

Don't feel bad. I had one hours to write today. One hour! And I spent the first 47 minutes of that hour agonizing.

And then I posted a bad poem. It was all I had. *shrugs*

Off to bed! Best of luck for tonight, all.

An hour? Huh. Most of my pieces so far have been bashed out in 20 minutes or so. I'm tending to use this as more of a "Get ideas written down" thing than producing an amazingly polished piece. That's probably why I haven't done any poems yet - they're so much harder than prose.

Poems ARE harder than prose; in fact, the "poem" I published yesterday should, and will eventually, be turned into a short prose piece.

Also, note that I said I spent 47 minutes of my hour agonizing (i.e., not writing) because I didn't even get a chance to think about what I was going to write all day. So by 9 p.m. (after which I am generally worse than useless) I was in ZOMG PANIK mode because I didn't even have an idea. T_T

But Thursdays are going to be hard for me throughout this whole thing. I have very little free time on Thursdays.

Yah, poetry= rly hard. Especially with only a day to write it in.

Which is why Missed is just so amazing. ^_^

I actually did get some writing done! And I finished (finished!) a short story! 'Tis but a humble rough draft, but that's the first short story I've finished outside a contest in three or four years. O.o

Now comes the edit. *dies*

It's really weird, but while I can think of ideas during the day, I can't write properly until nighttime. Sometime around 9 or 10 o'clock I lose my inhibitions, stop worrying that it'll be crap, and actually manage to write something.

Problem is, to function properly the next day, I really should be in bed by 10 at the latest. *grumbles* Stupid CFS, stifling my nocturnal instincts. ^_^

Poetry for me is more of a spur thing, and as such it's easier, though editing poetry, of course, is difficult. I think it's either due to my style, or the fact that I suck at poetry.

Ela, quick quick! To the msn-mobile!
